Keeping drones safe, secure and green: Commission launches the European Network of U-space Demonstrators
Today EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc launched the European network for drone demonstration projects. The network will become a forum to share knowledge on how to keep drone operations safe, secure and green. It will focus on the so-called U-space: a system that connects all drones flying in the air and that makes all drones visible for authorities and citizens.

Close to 70% of the landing runways in Belgium equipped with satellite navigation thanks to Belgocontrol
As from now, aircraft will be able to land on Brussels Airport’s runway 19 thanks to satellite navigation. From a total of 18 landing runways at Belgian airports, 12 are currently equipped with these PBN approach procedures (Performance Based Navigation).

Inter hospital transport by drone becomes reality
Helicus Aero Initiative (HAI) is putting in place a system that is able to transport medical parcels by drones between hospitals and their laboratories/pharmacies. The project, named MEDRONA, was selected for funding by the federal government. Inter hospital test flights will take place during the second part of 2019 in Antwerp urban airspace.

Both Belgian and Luxembourg air navigation service providers are very satisfied about the intense collaboration they started after concluding an agreement in 2017. They confirm that mutual trust by deepening and expanding that collaboration. Four new domains have been added to the original Memorandum of Understanding.

Belgocontrol performs very well as regards punctuality in the first half of 2018
Despite the overall increase in air traffic in Europe, Belgocontrol’s results in terms of punctuality are once again outstanding. With only 0.06 minutes of average delay per en-route flight in the first half of the year, the company has one of the best punctuality rates in FABEC (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Switzerland). The number of air movements is increasing by almost 3%. A total of 537,313 flights were safely managed by Belgocontrol's air traffic controllers from 1 January to 30 June.

Brussels Airport partners strengthen environmental cooperation
Belgocontrol and Brussels Airport Company have signed a cooperation agreement with Brussels Airlines, TUI Fly and DHL, on undertaking joint initiatives that further reduce the environmental impact of airport operations. EUROCONTROL and airport trade association, ACI Europe, support and recognise this initiative on ‘Collaborative Environmental Management (CEM)’ at Brussels Airport.

Entry Point North Belgium welcomes its first students
On 3 September Entry Point North Belgium welcomed its first students in Brussels. The first day has started with training courses for 20 air traffic controllers of Belgocontrol and will be followed by various other courses for air traffic controllers, engineers and technicians in the upcoming weeks.
